One of the great attractions of Camping de Courte Vallee is its little explored, rural location giving access to a remarkably wide variety of walking country. Beautiful rivers, overhung by woodland of oak, willow, walnut and poplar and bordered by dense thickets are home to a host of wildlife. Kingfisher, grey wagtail and Golden Oriole with their vibrant colours; blackcap and nightingale with their melodious song are joined by a profusion of butterflies and dragonfies flitting between a multitude of wild flowers and plants. In contrast, vast vistas of open farmland, dotted with woodland and historic villages, change colour and shape as their crops, among them, sunflower, maize, melon, rape, linseed, clover and grape slowly ripen in the sun. Montagues and Hen Harriers constantly patrol at low level, while above them buzzard soar in huge skies. From the site or within a short distance, well marked and well maintained footpaths provide comfortable walking for all those who enjoy a good walk in glorious countryside. From April to July, and again in September 2010 we will again be organising escorted walks from the campsite, which will include either a stop-off at a local restaurant for a Plat de Jour, or a picnic en route. There will also be an option of being picked up after lunch for those who have eaten too much to make it back to the site! If the weather is unduly warm (wouldn’t that be nice!), the walks will take place in the late afternoon/early evening and, again, will incorporate either a refreshment stop at a local establishment, or a buffet supper back at ‘base’. The walks will be led by Pete Wickham, a regular here for several years, renowned amongst our 'regulars' for his knowledge of our local area and his enthusiasm for its flora and fauna.
